What I'm Reading: Every Little Thing ~ Deidra Riggs

I've always been a book nerd. I am never not in the middle of a memoir, historical fiction, or novel. As a kid, I read through the entire Baby-Sitter's club series as fast as I could check the next book out from the library. After I die, I would prefer to be buried underneath the nearest Half Price Bookstore with a bookmark in one hand a coffe cup in the other.

I also love reading blogs, although there are very few that I read regularly. That's because I want the real stuff, the true life writing of someone's heart.

When I found out Deidra Riggs, one of my favorite bloggers, was also writing a book, I got a little excited. Deidra writes honest-to-goodness thoughts about race and the church and relationships and how to be real. Her book Every Little Thing: Making a World of Difference Right Where You Are is no different.

I have to be honest here and say that I was hesitant at first to delve into this reading, simply because I hate where we live right now (small apartment), the state we live in (could Texas be any hotter in the summer?), and being far from my friends and family. So, no, I have no desire to make any difference right where I am, but I love Deidra's writing, so in I dove.

Ya'll. This book is it.

Which jobs have you crossed off because you don't have the time, the experience, or the resources? What adventure is God trying to get on your calendar, but you keep deleting it because you're not as smart as so-and-so, or because that adventure doesn't fit inside your comfort zone, or because you'd just rather not, thank you very much? (page 22)

It's like she has been following me around and watching me (kind of creepy), then putting my days into writing.

The book is divided into three parts: Knowing Yourself, Following God's Leading, and Taking the Next Step. There is so much realness here, friends. Deidra reminds you and me to join God in what He's doing, whether that's in Nebraska or Texas or Russia or Haiti.

I still have lots of questions about what's next and where I'll be and what I'm supposed to do; trust me that this book will journey with me.
